With over 12 years of hands-on experience establishing and optimizing regulated cannabis facilities across the United States and the European Union, Maxwell Cranford has become a recognized authority on the intersection of horticultural science and operational governance. Having guided operations from initial licensing approval to full-scale commercial production, Maxwell has a deep understanding of the critical inflection points where many cannabis businesses falter.
Recently, Maxwell served as the Director of Cultivation for Jushi/Beyond-Hello, where he launched and operated Virginia’s first GMP-compliant medical cannabis facility. Under his leadership, the facility reached a production capacity of over 5,000 kilograms of clean, dry flower annually. This was achieved through a rigorous commitment to innovation and sustainability—maximizing canopy space with vertical, mobile hydroponic systems and minimizing environmental impact by recycling and filtering HVAC water byproducts. During this tenure, he was instrumental in navigating the complex, newly established regulations of the Virginia Board of Pharmacy.
A pioneer in the Virginia market, Maxwell also founded the state’s first licensed cannabis nursery. This venture revolutionized the local supply chain by providing clean, pheno-tested genetics to both commercial facilities and private growers, while successfully implementing a legal framework for online sales and secure plant shipping.
Maxwell’s influence extends nationwide through the development of hundreds of Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) adopted by facilities across the country. His workflows are engineered to deliver measurable outcomes: reducing operational costs, maximizing plant vigor, minimizing microbial loss, and maintaining strict GMP standards to accelerate time-to-revenue.
